(25-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Airstrikes have been carried out on a bomb factory and a radio station in the town of Gal-Hareeri, Galgaduud region, causing significant damage to the militant group’s infrastructure.
Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adaala, confirmed that the airstrikes were a collaborative effort between Somali forces and their international allies. The operation targeted key Al-Shabaab facilities, leading to extensive losses for the group.
Minister Al-Adaala, in his statement, indicated that the airstrike not only eliminated many members of Al-Shabaab but also successfully destroyed a factory used for making explosives and Andalus Radio, a station operated by the group. “The Gal-Heari operation has been blessed. Many Khawarij were neutralised, and their facilities, including a radio station and a bomb-making factory, were destroyed,” he said.
The Somali Army Command released a statement confirming the death of at least 25 Al-Shabaab members in the attack, including journalists, leaders, and militia members. The statement highlighted the comprehensive nature of the airstrikes, underlining the destruction of media equipment and the neutralisation of key personnel within the group.
“Last night’s airstrikes were pivotal in dismantling Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities in Galhareeri. We have obliterated their media and weapons manufacturing facilities, marking a crucial victory in our fight against terrorism,” the Army Command noted.
The airstrikes come amid intensified military activities in central Somalia, with the Somali government, local forces, and international allies working in unison to weaken Al-Shabaab’s stronghold in the region.
