(03-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali Security Forces, along with the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), apprehended Muhiyadiin Abdisalan Mohamud, alias Muhiyidin Daqare, in Mogadishu on Saturday. Muhiyadiin, a critical figure within Al-Shabaab, served as an aide to the group’s leader and co-founder, Ahmed Diriye, marking this capture as a pivotal moment in Somalia’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

The state-owned news agency SONNA reported that the operation was meticulously planned and executed, leading to Muhiyadiin’s arrest as he attempted to covertly enter the capital. His apprehension is a major victory in the effort to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s operations within Somalia, underscoring the government’s commitment to eradicating the threat of terrorism.

Muhiyadiin’s involvement with Al-Shabaab spanned various regions across Somalia, including Bay, Galgaduud, Mudug, and Lower Shabelle. These areas are known strongholds of the militant group, and his capture disrupts their ability to conduct operations, highlighting the strategic significance of his arrest in weakening Al-Shabaab’s regional influence.

The government has yet to release detailed information about the arrest. However, it has promised forthcoming disclosures regarding Muhiyadiin’s activities and his connections within the terrorist organisation. This expected release of information could provide crucial intelligence, leading to further arrests and a substantial diminution of Al-Shabaab’s presence in the country.

Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, has wreaked havoc in Somalia and the surrounding region with its quest to establish an Islamic state governed by strict Sharia law. The group’s attacks have not only destabilized the region but have also resulted in the loss of countless innocent lives, making their defeat a priority for the Somali government and its international allies.
