(26-02-24) HARGEISA (Halqabsi News) — Two miners have lost their lives following the collapse of a mine they were digging in Gabilay region of Somaliland. A survivor of the tragic incident told MMTV of the incident. “The two were inside, and the rest of us were outside when the mine just caved in and imploded. It happened in an instant—the scene we witnessed and the quake that emanated from the site were shocking,” he recounted.
Another miner revealed that while one of the victims was deep inside the mine, the other was nearer to the entrance. In a dire attempt at rescue, as the collapse initiated, both were tragically killed.
Mursal Mohamed Jama, a representative of the Gabilay District Local Council, confirmed to MMTV that the remains had been retrieved and transported to the city of Gabilay. Reports indicate that the tragedy is one of three similar incidents that have occurred in the region over recent years, each resulting in fatalities.
