(26-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — A local businessman, Mohamed Ahmed Abdirahman Biriq, was fatally stabbed on Monday afternoon in a public market in the Wadajir district of Mogadishu, escalating a long-standing dispute with a fellow female trader, police and witnesses reported.
The conflict between Abdirahman and the woman, which had persisted for several days, reached a tragic conclusion when the woman, aided by her brother, allegedly attacked Abdirahman. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the brother restrained the businessman while his sister inflicted the fatal wounds.
Authorities have confirmed that both siblings are now in police custody awaiting trial. The incident has ignited outrage in the community, with the victim’s family demanding justice before they consent to bury his body. In protest, they have placed his remains in the mortuary at Madina Hospital.
This murder adds to a growing trend of violence in Mogadishu, with several cases of unresolved deaths leading to an increase in unburied bodies, contributing to public unrest and sorrow.
The recent surge in violence includes the murder of a school teacher, left unburied for 11 days, and the ongoing trial regarding the death of Luul Abdiasis, further exacerbating tensions in the Somali capital.
