(01-03-24) ANTALYA (Halqabsi News) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, speaking on Friday at the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Turkey, highlighted his vision for a prosperous Somalia and emphasised the significance of maintaining stability in crucial areas such as the Red Sea.
The Somali leader stressed the importance of “good neighbourliness and cooperation based on mutual respect and mutual benefit,” underlining that the stability of Red Sea-bordering countries is essential for peace and global trade. According to President Mohamud, the Somali government is prioritising regional cooperation and stability.
Addressing current geopolitical tensions, President Mohamud criticised the Ethiopian Government’s actions, stating they “violate the unity and independence of Somalia,” thereby hampering international efforts to stabilise significant routes including the Red Sea. He dismissed the Ethiopian Government’s justifications for their actions, which he said are encroaching on Somali sovereignty.
The President also acknowledged the challenges faced by Somalia, from governance to security, while underlining the resilience of the Somali people. “The liberation of areas under the control of terrorists goes hand in hand with plans to strengthen the government and enhance Somalia’s cooperation and role in the region,” Mohamud said, outlining initiatives such as joining the East African Community, lifting the arms embargo, and completing debt relief.
President Mohamud’s statements at the forum shed light on Somalia’s stance on regional issues and its commitment to overcoming internal challenges through collaboration and a focus on stability.
