(15-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somali National Army and local forces from Hararadhere executed a night-time operation against key Al-Shabaab operatives in the Mudug and Galgudud regions, officials reported on Friday.
The operation, based on detailed intelligence, was aimed at the militant group’s leadership, responsible for a series of attacks in Mudug region. The forces engaged a vehicle convoy in the Dumaye village, resulting in the death of Al-Shabaab’s deputy leader for Mudug and Galgudud, alongside a foreign commander and five guards.
Officials identified the deceased deputy leader Mohamed Isaaq Aw-raage (Maracade), known for planning and leading terrorist activities. The successful raid removed high-profile militants from the battlefield and led to the seizure of weapons and ammunition.
The returning troops were hailed for their precision and effectiveness, marking a triumph in Somalia’s ongoing struggle against the insurgent group. The government continues to prioritise dismantling Al-Shabaab’s network in south and central Somalia.
