(28 March 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Federal Republic of Somalia’s legislative body convened in a pivotal joint session today at Villa Hargeisa, entering the critical third stage of the constitutional review process. This significant gathering united members from both chambers of Parliament to closely examine and deliberate on the proposed final amendments to the country’s constitution.
Mr. Hussein Idow, Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, unveiled a comprehensive draft detailing the suggested amendments. This draft, born from extensive research and consultation, aims to modernize Somalia’s constitution, ensuring it meets the evolving needs and aspirations of its citizens.
Advocate Burhan Aden Omar, Chairman of the Independent Commission for the Constitution, addressed the varied opinions expressed by the honourable members of the Federal Parliament of Somalia (FPS) during prior discussions. His insights into the differing perspectives underscored the challenging task of forging consensus on key constitutional matters.
