This approval marks the end of intensive discussions that have engaged parliamentarians for over two months.
Presided over by Sheikh Adan Madobe, the session witnessed unanimous agreement among attending members on the four proposed amendments, spotlighting a collective commitment to refining the country’s governance.
The breakthrough followed thorough deliberations by both chambers of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, where the Upper House, composed of 42 senators, and 212 MPs from the Lower House, ratified the amendments, signalling a unified front in the legislative process.
“This majority vote approval marks a pivotal moment in our legislative history,” Madobe stated, emphasizing the significance of this development in overcoming prolonged debates that have polarised opinion, especially among opposition leaders and influential figures from Puntland.
The passage of these amendments is seen as a crucial step towards modernising Somalia’s constitutional framework, aimed at fostering a more transparent, inclusive, and effective governance model. The move is anticipated to bolster the nation’s journey towards democratic maturity, promising enhanced stability and prosperity.
