(18 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali Cabinet of Ministers approved three agreements with Tanzania on Thursday, in a bid to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries. During their regular meeting in Mogadishu, the Cabinet ratified a cooperation agreement to enhance ties within the East African Trade Union, a step towards regional integration.
A second agreement focused on humanitarian efforts, facilitating the transfer of prisoners of war from Tanzania to Somalia. This move aims to uphold human rights and allow for the reintegration of these individuals into Somali society.
The third pact, centred on tourism, is expected to boost cultural exchanges and promote tourism, showcasing both countries’ rich heritage and natural beauty. Additionally, the meeting addressed national security, with the Ministries of Internal Security and Defence reporting on the ongoing efforts to stabilise the country and combat the insurgent Khawarij groups.
