(09-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Rescue efforts are underway for approximately 30 Ahlu-Sunna Waljamaa scholars abducted by Al-Shabaab last Friday in the Lantaburo area of the Lower Shabelle region. The revelation came from Mohamed Farah Abdi, a relative of the abducted scholars, in an interview with Kulmiye Radio.
According to Abdi, the scholars are currently being held captive by Al-Shabaab in the Jilib Marko forest area. Local elders and community leaders have initiated negotiations with the militant group in an attempt to secure their release. There are also unconfirmed reports of peacekeepers being deployed to assist in the rescue operation.
The abduction has raised grave concerns for the safety of the scholars, as Al-Shabaab has a history of targeting and killing those who oppose their extremist views. The Ahlu-Sunna Waljamaa group, a Sufi sect, has been a vocal opponent of Al-Shabaab and has previously engaged in armed conflict with the militants.
