(21-07-24) BAIDOA (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by the Dervishes of the South West administration, seized control of Jameeco, a strategic village 25km east of Burhakaba district in the Bay region.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the success of the planned operation, stating that several Al-Shabaab militants were neutralised and the area liberated from their control. This victory marks a significant blow to Al-Shabaab’s ability to disrupt travel and trade along the vital route.
“The National Army and the South West Dervishes carried out an operation in the area of Jame’a… killing members of Al-Shabaab, taking control of the area,” the government announced. Officials reported heavy casualties inflicted on the extremist group.
The situation in the region remains tense, with military activity still ongoing around Burhakaba district. In recent days, the South West has witnessed a surge in operations targeting Al-Shabaab strongholds within its administrative borders.
This latest victory follows a string of successful offensives by the SNA and its allies against Al-Shabaab, demonstrating the government’s growing strength and determination to combat the extremist group.
