(21 July 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday inaugurated the Somali Custodial Corps Strategic Planning Consultation organised by Somalia’s Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with International Development Law Organization IDLO
The event, attended by the Attorney General, US ambassador, key judiciary officials, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Security, and civil society, highlighted the challenges faced by custodial facilities due to years of neglect.
President Mohamud reaffirmed the commitment to improving conditions and capacity through coordinated efforts and enhanced accountability across the criminal justice chain. The consultation aims to validate institutional documents, foster collaboration through a Custodial Corps Advisory/Working Group, and secure support from donors and stakeholders for long-term success.
