(23 July 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia’s Upper House this morning held a session that also hosted Speaker of the East Africa Legislative Assembly Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana. Deputy Speaker Tima’Adde welcomed Ntakirutimana and his team, highlighting Somalia’s keen interest in joining the EAC and detailing the country’s natural resources and potential contributions to regional development. He underscored the Parliament’s commitment to fostering a productive relationship with the East African Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Ntakirutimana, in his address, outlined the objectives of his visit, the structure of the EAC Parliament, and its duties. He expressed a desire to include Somali representatives in the EAC Legislative Assembly, which consists of nine members from both houses of the 11th Parliament.
After the meeting, Deputy Speaker Tima’Adde assured that efforts would be made to expedite the nomination of Somali representatives for the EAC Legislative Assembly. He honoured Mr Ntakirutimana and his delegation with gifts and awards that reflect Somali heritage and culture.
