(24-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The National Consultative Council (NCC) summit, set to begin in Mogadishu on Wednesday, has been indefinitely postponed. According to local media reports, Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam ‘Ahmed Madobe’ requested the postponement due to intensified military operations on the outskirts of Kismayo. The request was made to boost the morale of the joint Somali National Army (SNA) and Jubaland forces engaged in clashes against Al-Shabaab militants.
Jubaland has recently experienced heightened military activity against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the Lower Juba region. The recent operations in Bula Haji and surrounding areas have dealt significant blows to the militants.
While no new date has been set for the NCC summit, it is anticipated that federal government leaders and Federal Member State leaders will convene in early August to address key national issues, including the fight against Al-Shabaab, control of illegal weapons, and elections.
