(04 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali government has taken decisive action in response to Friday’s devastating attack on Lido Beach, which claimed the lives of over 100 civilians. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre visited Digfeer Hospital, where many of the injured were admitted, and announced the arrest of army officers responsible for security on the roads leading to the beach.
“We have taken urgent measures to ensure accountability. Many suspects, including army officers responsible for security on the roads leading to the beach, have been arrested and are under investigation,” Prime Minister Barre said. “I hope that we will take strong measures to improve security.”
The prime minister also expressed his wishes for the swift recovery of the injured and pledged government support. He condemned Al-Shabaab for targeting innocent civilians and called on the Somali people to unite and support the military and security agencies in their fight against the extremist group.
During his visit to Digfeer Hospital, Prime Minister Barre met with some of the injured, listened to reports from the hospital administration and doctors, and offered his support and solidarity. He also praised the security forces for their efforts in rescuing and assisting the victims.
