(23-Feb-23) Mogadishu, Somalia – The Hirshabelle State of Somalia has strongly condemned the recent attack by Al Shabaab militants on Mawisley patients in Abdicasis District, which resulted in the death of at least 10 patients. The patients belonged to the Mawisley fighters, who were receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the ongoing conflict with Al Shabaab in the Hiran Region.
The attack was carried out in what has been described as an act of revenge by Al Shabaab, who had suffered significant losses in recent battles in various regions of the country. The Hirshabelle State of Somalia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdi Dahir Guure, spoke out against the attack, describing it as a heinous and senseless act of violence.
Minister Guure also expressed concerns about the security of the people from Hiraan Region, who he said are not adequately represented in the Banadir Region administration or the security agencies in Mogadishu. He called on the federal government to take urgent action to improve the security situation in the country and protect the lives of its citizens.
The Ministry of Information of the Federal Government confirmed that at least 10 people were killed in the attack, including a doctor who was responsible for monitoring the health condition of the patients. Al Shabaab, however, claimed responsibility for the attack and announced that they had killed 70 soldiers who were in the house.
