(29 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Four young business owners were tragically killed in a brutal attack on Monday in Mogadishu’s Towfiq neighbourhood, Yaaqshid district. The victims were gunned down by armed assailants, believed to be Al-Shabaab militants, who approached the shops with apparent precision, according to witnesses. Three of the men died instantly, while the fourth succumbed to his injuries en route to a nearby hospital.
Despite the swift arrival of police and security forces, the perpetrators managed to evade capture, raising serious security concerns in the capital.
Police sources suggest a link between the killings and the recent government-mandated installation of CCTV cameras in Mogadishu’s commercial districts, implemented to enhance security amid rising violence. Al-Shabaab has publicly denounced this measure, viewing it as a direct threat to their operations and revenue streams.
In response to the increased surveillance, the militant group has intensified its attacks on businesses complying with the government’s directive. Last week alone, five individuals were killed in similar targeted assaults, highlighting the dangers facing entrepreneurs in the city.
