(19 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam ‘Ahmed Madobe’ on Tuesday held a virtual meeting with key representatives from Somalia’s international partners. According to Jubaland State TV, discussions centred on the ongoing parliamentary and presidential elections in Jubaland, the broader political landscape, and the latest outcomes of the National Consultative Council (NCC) meetings.
The meeting included ambassadors from the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, Germany, and the European Union, as well as representatives from the United Nations (Acting SRSG), IGAD, and ATMIS.
The engagement comes amidst a continuing dispute between the Jubaland administration and the federal government over the electoral process in Kismayo. The federal government has called for the process to be paused and urged Jubaland’s leadership to rejoin NCC deliberations aimed at steering Somalia towards a unified one-person, one-vote election system.
