(15 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Council of Ministers had a special session on Sunday to discuss proposed amendments to the country’s constitution. Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama presided over the meeting, which focused on Articles 5 and 9, two key provisions currently under review.
In conjunction with the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, the Independent Commission for the Review and Implementation of the Constitution provided an update on the ongoing consultation process. The commission outlined the rationale behind the proposed changes and sought feedback from cabinet members.
Cabinet ministers actively participated in the discussion, raising questions and offering insights into the potential impact of the amendments. The goal of the review is to ensure that the constitution remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of the Somali people.
