Mogadishu, Somalia – In a significant blow to the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, 136 of its members were killed in an operation carried out by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) with support from international security partners in the Lower Shabelle region last night. The operation targeted a forest area near the villages of Tawakal and Garas Jeered, 12 KM west of Jannaale District.
The operation resulted in the death of three key Al-Shabaab leaders, Mo’alim Salahey, Salman Dhere, and Mo’alim Hashi. A military vehicle and weapons cache was also destroyed in the operation, which took place in a location that served as a weapons store for the terrorist group.
Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Al-adala, announced the results of the operation at a press conference held today at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu. He confirmed that the Al-Shabaab terrorists were using caves and tents to hide in the area, but the NISA and its international partners successfully destroyed all their hideouts.
This joint operation marks a major victory in the fight against terrorism in Somalia and demonstrates the effectiveness of the NISA’s efforts to counter the threat posed by Al-Shabaab. The elimination of these key leaders will disrupt the group’s ability to carry out future attacks, and the destruction of the weapons cache will deny them the means to do so.
The operation is a testament to the resolve of the NISA and its international partners to maintain security and stability in Somalia and protect its citizens from the threat posed by Al-Shabaab.
