Meet Hibo Mohamed Dirir, a 24-year-old woman from Burco, Somaliland who is on a mission to make a difference in the lives of women in her community. Despite facing numerous challenges, Hibo has refused to give up on her dream of helping others. Her goal is to educate the informal traders in the Hargeisa market, which led her to sponsor these mothers with the necessary materials, such as books and pens, to help improve their reading and math skills.
In an interview with Halqabsi News, Hibo shares that “it wasn’t easy, but my passion and dedication to the cause kept me going.” She started her journey when she noticed that informal traders in the Hargeisa market were struggling with mobile payments because they couldn’t read or write. Hibo took it upon herself to sponsor these mothers with books and pens and provide adult education to them.
Hibo’s efforts have resulted in a significant impact on the lives of these women. In just one year, 80 mothers have graduated from her program, and over 300 mothers have benefited from her teachings. Hibo’s hard work, enthusiasm, and passion for education have made her a role model for others.
“Hibo is a true trailblazer, paving the way for future generations of women in Somaliland. She embodies the spirit of courage, resilience, and perseverance, and is a source of inspiration for all who seek to make a difference in their communities.” said one of her beneficiaries.
Hibo’s story has also inspired other young people in cities like Burco and Erigavo. They were motivated by Hibo’s determination and passion for education and decided to take matters into their own hands by teaching informal traders in their communities how to read, write, and do basic arithmetic. Hibo’s story has become a source of inspiration for these young people, who are eager to spread her message of education and empowerment. Through their tireless efforts, they have created a network of informal traders equipped with new knowledge and skills and empowered to take their businesses to the next level.
Hibo’s story is a reminder of the role each of us can play in changing society. Despite facing obstacles, such as a lack of support during graduation ceremonies, Hibo has never lost sight of her mission to serve her community. Her unwavering commitment to others is an inspiration to all.
Hibo’s impact on her community is reflected in her recognition as Somaliland’s Person of the Year in 2022, a testament to the impact she has had on her community. Hibo’s story is a reminder of the struggle of women in the past and the power of a determined spirit.
As Hibo continues her mission to empower women through education, her story will continue to inspire and uplift, reminding us all of the transformative power of one person’s determination to make a difference.
