(26-Feb-23) Mogadishu, Somalia – An ATMIS Helicopter on a joint familiarisation training mission for Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) drills with officers from the Somali National Army, crashed in Baledogle, Lower Shabelle region of Somalia on Saturday, according to sources.
The helicopter was carrying a total of eleven soldiers, including two Ugandan soldiers, a pilot from the US military, and the Somali elite force, DANAB. The incident claimed the lives of three soldiers from DANAB and wounded four more, including the two Ugandan soldiers and the US pilot.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The eight injured officers have been evacuated to Mogadishu for urgent medical attention, according to a statement released by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the African Union’s Capacity Building and Advisory Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
