(22-Feb-23) Laascaanood, Somalia – The Somaliland forces have once again fired artillery in the city of Lasaanood, the capital of the Sool region, according to reports. The attack hit areas with civilians, leading to the death of at least two people and several injuries. The Sool region is no stranger to the devastating consequences of conflict, and such actions of violence only cause harm to the innocent and escalate the already tense situation in the region.
The officers of the SSC forces in Lasaanod have accused the Somaliland forces of carrying out massacres, and have vowed to defend the city. However, this cycle of violence must come to an end, and all parties involved should prioritize peace and dialogue over violence.
According to a press release issued by the traditional elders of the Sool region, the death toll has risen to almost 100 people, with approximately 500 others injured due to the ongoing shelling and fighting in Laascaanood. This violence has continued for 17 days, with several attempts at ceasefires failing to hold.
