Nairobi, Kenya – The Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has put out a wanted alert for five terror suspects believed to be behind recent attacks on civilians and security forces in Lamu County’s Boni Forest.

The five individuals, Ramadhan Hamisi Kufungwa, Issa Abdalla Ahmed, Ahmed Omar Said, Maalim Yussuf Hassan, and Maalim Abbas, are reportedly responsible for the attacks. According to the DCI, Kufungwa commands Al-Shabaab fighters and coordinates attacks from Somalia with the help of Kassim Musa Mwarusi, a fugitive wanted for executing attacks in Boni and for recruiting for Al-Shabaab and other terror groups from Kenya.

Ahmed, who joined Al-Shabaab in 2014 and has been involved in several previous attacks, is currently planning new ones from within the country. Abbas, labelled as dangerous by the DCI, was involved in the 2014 Garissa University attack that claimed 147 lives.

According to the DCI, the activities of the five individuals pose a significant security threat to the country. This warning comes after the US embassy issued a similar advisory to its citizens in Kenya, warning of the possibility of a terrorist attack.
