(21-Feb-23) Mogadishu, Somalia – Haramcad security forces have concluded an operation against members of Al-Shabaab terrorists who stormed a building in Mogadishu’s Abdiasis district. The forces killed four terrorists who carried out the attack, but unfortunately, ten civilians were martyred in a suicide attack that the terrorists targeted at the building.
The attack was carried out on the home of an army general in the Abdicasis district, where wounded soldiers from Mawisley in the Hiran region were being treated, sparking heavy fighting and security concerns. The commander of the Haramcad army, Abdihamid Abdullahi Fanah, was slightly injured in the battle.
The assault has increased security concerns in Mogadishu, which has seen a rise in killings and bombings by the Al-Shabaab group in recent weeks. The targeted home is located near the new immigration center, and the sound of heavy explosions can be heard from the area.
The attack has also raised questions about how Al-Shabaab managed to breach the heavy security in Abdicasis district. This has heightened concerns about the government’s ability to maintain law and order in the city. The area is also known to house high-ranking government officials, including the residence of Senator Ali Shabaan, the 1st Deputy Speaker of the Upper House.
According to some analysts, the government may have been dissatisfied with the Hawadle community’s press release, and the attack on the wounded soldiers who fought against Al-Shabaab and were brought from Hiran. They suspect that the government, specifically Villa Somalia, may have had prior knowledge of the soldiers’ injuries, which has raised concerns about the attack being staged.
