(28-Feb-23) LaasAnod, Somalia – A heavy artillery attack has struck the Lascaanod General Hospital , amidst ongoing fighting between the Somaliland army and local forces in the city. Reports indicate that the conflict, which has been ongoing for three weeks, has caused over 200 deaths and injured over 900 people, mostly civilians.

Dr Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, director of the general of Lascaanod General Hospital, spoke to the media about the damage caused by the shelling. The pediatric ward and lab department of LA General Hospital was severely damaged by a shell fired by the Somaliland army during their attack on Lasanod. Lascaanod remains in a precarious situation as the conflict continues to unfold.

As the conflict in Lasaanod enters its 22nd day, local residents report that the fighting continues in the east of the city. Meanwhile, today’s reports indicate that weapons can still be heard from both sides in the west of Lasaanood. The situation in the city remains tense, with no clear end in sight for this devastating war.
