Jowhar, Somalia – In a shocking turn of events, two prisoners were killed at the Jowhar district court after a court hearing on Monday. The prisoners were being held in connection with the murder of a three-year-old boy whose body was found in the Barwaqa canal in Jowhar last month. The boy’s body appeared to have been allegedly tortured and had a rope tied around his neck.
According to eyewitness accounts, shots were fired at the two prisoners as they were being escorted out of the court hearing room by a soldier who is believed to have fathered the boy and who escaped from the scene after committing the murder.
The soldier responsible for the killing is thought to be a member of the AFJAR militias, a group that operates similarly to the Mawisley and whose headquarters is located in the Hawadley area. The AFJAR militias have a history of causing chaos and insecurity in the region, and this latest incident highlights their disregard for the rule of law.
The killing of the two prisoners in court has shocked the community and raised serious concerns about the security situation in the area. Eyewitnesses in the area have stated that “the Somali government must take action to ensure the safety of its citizens and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
