(12-03-23) Mogadishu – Al-Shabaab, the Somali-based militant group, has released a video showing a foreign fighter who blew himself up in Somalia in April 2021. The group identified the bomber as Ramadan Mwani, also known as Abdulhaq Al-Muhajir among al-Shabaab members, was from Kenya.

The attack took place at the Federal Government Army Camp in the Barire area of Lower Shabelle. The group had planned to take over 30 tons of military supplies for the government forces in Awdheegle, but government forces successfully defended the camp until dawn. In recognition of their bravery, every soldier was promoted by one rank.

Al-Shabaab also claimed responsibility for two attacks in Somalia carried out by foreigners from Kenya. The first attack occurred on May 2, 2022, in El Baraf, while the second took place on January 22, 2023, at the headquarters of the local government in Mogadishu.

The release of the video and photos of the foreign fighter by Al-Shabaab underscores the ongoing threat posed by the group in the region. The Somali government, with the support of international partners, continues to work towards defeating the militant group and bringing peace and stability to the country.
