(01-Mar-23) Doha, Qatar –Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, has met with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of Qatar’s Ministry of Energy and Industry, the ministers discussed ways to address the effects of climate change and help Somalia reduce its repercussions. They also explored opportunities to exchange knowledge and expertise in the field of environment and climate change.
“I was pleased to meet with His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, and I thank him for the warm reception at the headquarters of his ministry,” said Minister Al-Makhzoumi. “The valuable briefing on Qatar’s experiences in the field of environment and climate change will help us in our efforts to address the effects of climate change in Somalia.”
Minister Al-Makhzoumi added that the meeting with Qatar’s minister was an opportunity to strengthen the ties between the two countries and build a partnership that will benefit both nations. “We look forward to working closely with Qatar’s Ministry of Energy and Industry to enhance cooperation between our two ministries and to achieve our common goals,” she said.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues to face the effects of climate change, including droughts, floods, and other natural disasters. The country has been working to address these challenges and to build resilience to climate change through various initiatives, including the development of a National Climate Change Policy and the establishment of a Climate Change Department within the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
Minister Al-Makhzoumi’s meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs is expected to help Somalia in its efforts to address the effects of climate change and to build a more sustainable future for its citizens.
