(13-05-23) MOGADISHU – In a recent interview with SMS Somali TV, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad, called for unity and open dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Puntland region. This comes after a series of angry statements from both parties that have only served to exacerbate tensions in the country.
“Somalia today does not need to point fingers at each other and talk about divisive things in the air, but it needs a real dialogue that helps and that the interest of the country and the people work together and understand each other for the future,” said Awad during the interview. He stressed the importance of working together for the country’s future and setting aside differences in order to find common ground.
Awad emphasized that the Federal Government of Somalia is responsible for the entire country, and Puntland is an essential region that deserves attention and respect. “It is imperative that the interests of the country and the Somali people work together openly and move forward together and replace the disagreements with cooperation and understanding because what we have in common is greater than the small differences in our views,” he added.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs also called for a measured and calm approach to the situation, urging leaders to put emotions aside and focus on the restructuring and development of the nation as a whole.
In addition, Awad criticized the spread of misinformation on social media, which has only served to further confuse and mislead the public. He urged those involved to be more responsible with their words and actions.
Amb. Awad concluded his interview with a heartfelt message to the Somali people, both at home and abroad, urging them to join hands and work together towards the peace and development of their beloved country.
