(19-05-23) BAIDOA – Southwest Ministry of Health kick-started the construction of the Ministry of Health Building and Public Health Emergency Operation Center in Baidoa on Thursday, the administrative capital of the Southwest State of Somalia. The stone-laying ceremony marked a crucial step towards providing comprehensive health services and emergency responses to some of the most crisis-hit regions in the country.
The project, financed by multiple benefactors, has already received the first phase of support from global philanthropists, the Gates Foundation, and health-focused NGO, eHealth AFRICA.
The Health Minister, Mohamed Osman “Jiidow,” and Director General, Abdi Ali, both acclaimed for their relentless efforts in securing this pivotal project, attended the ceremony. Their presence signified the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access and emergency preparedness in this resilient state.
“Today’s event is not just about laying the foundation stone for a new building; it’s a beacon of hope for our most deserving citizens,” stated Minister Jiidow. “This centre will serve as a testament to our unwavering dedication to improving the health and well-being of the people of Southwest State of Somalia.”
Abdi Ali, the Director General, echoed this sentiment, stating, “This project is a symbol of resilience and progress. Despite the challenges, we will continue to work relentlessly to provide our people with the essential health services they rightly deserve.”
This construction signifies a monumental leap in healthcare provision for the region. Once completed, the Ministry will have its own fully functional office and an Emergency operation centre dedicated to serving the population in times of crisis.
