(23-05-23) MOGADISHU – Following a series of escalating disputes within the diplomatic ranks of Somalia, Parliament Member Sheikh Aweys Mohamed Omar, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, announced a special parliamentary session will be convened to address these issues. In a recent tweet, MP Omar noted the Foreign Minister will be called upon to respond to the growing list of grievances.
On Monday, Somalia’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Salim Maow Haji, tendered his resignation, igniting controversy within the Somali government. Ambassador Haji, in service since October 2021, publicized his decision to step down after a contentious 32nd meeting of the Arab League in Jeddah.
Following a series of complaints from the Diplomatic Corps, the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee will convene special session. The Foreign Minister will be called to address these concerns. We value transparency and are committed to maintaining strong diplomatic relations.

In a public statement, Haji voiced his distress over disrespectful and insulting behaviour towards him by Hinda Ulosow, President Mohamud’s Chief of Protocol. The ambassador criticized the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s inaction despite reporting these incidents, leading him to resign.
“The treatment I experienced was unacceptable,” Haji stated in his resignation letter. “This kind of disrespectful behaviour from the President’s Chief of Protocol goes against all diplomatic norms.”
The upcoming special parliamentary session is expected to shed more light on these issues. The Somali government’s commitment to transparency and maintaining strong diplomatic relations will undoubtedly be put to the test as it confronts these claims.
