(13-05-23) MOGADISHU – The Mayor of Bolnas, Sweden, Abdullahi Adan, arrived in the Somali capital of Mogadishu today in a visit aimed at fostering cooperation and exchange between the two cities.

Greeted at Mogadishu airport by officials from the Banadir regional administration and members of the Somali parliament, Adan’s arrival signals a strengthening of relations between Somalia and Sweden. District governors, directors, and local community members from the Banadir region were also present at the reception, underlining the importance of this transnational meeting.

Following the airport greeting, Adan was escorted to the Hamar Local Government headquarters where he was welcomed by his Mogadishu counterpart, Yusuf Hussein Jimale, known locally as Madale.

The purpose of Adan’s trip is primarily work-related, with a specific focus on discussing ways to enhance cooperation and mutual exchange between Bolnas and Mogadishu. It is anticipated that this visit will pave the way for signing development agreements that will potentially benefit the capitals of both nations.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, the capital of neighbouring Kenya, the Deputy Chairman of General Affairs of the Banadir regional administration, Hassan Mohamed Jimale, concluded a four-day meeting. The gathering focused on several key points, including city satellite imagery, the foundation of Ground Control Point (GCP), the production of a Mogadishu City Map (Topographic Mapping), system development (GIS Web), and training of local government staff.

Following the meeting, the Banadir region administration and the project workers signed an agreement outlining their future work in Mogadishu. The signing was witnessed by the directors of the Banadir Local Government, who were representing the Japanese government.

The convergence of these events underscores the international interest in Mogadishu’s development, as it continues to evolve as a hub in the Horn of Africa. The commitment from cities like Bolnas, as well as support from international entities like the Japanese government, further demonstrate the potential of Mogadishu and the broader Banadir region.
