(14-06-23) MOGADISHU — In a meeting held at the African Troop-contributing countries to the Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) Force Headquarters in Mogadishu, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, the ATMIS Force Commander, and senior ATMIS military officials met with Gen. Michael Langley, the Commander of the United States Africa Command. The focus of their discussions was centered on exploring areas of mutual collaboration.
Gen. Langley expressed his appreciation for ATMIS’s ongoing efforts in stabilising the situation in Somalia.
The ATMIS Force, composed of soldiers from several African nations, has been at the forefront of the fight against extremism in Somalia. It has played a crucial role in restoring a degree of stability to the country. Commending these efforts, Gen. Langley highlighted the essential role of the ATMIS Force in enhancing security and working towards long-term peace in Somalia.
The U.S. Africa Command Commander had earlier met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and senior defence and security chiefs over the bolstering of security collaborations, especially during this time of ongoing war against the Al-Shabaab terror group.
