(15-06-23) DHUSAMAREB — President of Galmudug State, Ahmed Abdi Kariye, received Ms Tina Intelmann, the Ambassador of the European Union to Somalia, in a significant diplomatic event at the presidential palace of Galmudug State in Dhusamareb, on Wednesday.
Attended by Vice President of Galmudug State, Ali Dahir Eid, and several members of the Galmudug Cabinet, the meeting proved to be critical from both diplomatic and socio-economic standpoints. The assembly focused on a range of key topics encompassing the country’s overall situation, the democratic process, economic infrastructure, and the European Union’s ongoing projects in Galmudug State.
In a tweet from the President’s official account, Kariye reflected, “We had the pleasure to receive EU in Somalia Ambassador Tiina Intelmann and her delegation today at Galmudug presidential palace, where we discussed overall situation of the country, democratization, security and EU’s investment to develop the economic infrastructure in Galmudug.”
Following the event, the EU delegation in Somalia shared via Twitter the fruitful nature of their discussions with President Ahmed Abdi Kariye and his cabinet, emphasising the key subjects of security, stabilisation, democratisation, and development assistance.
Amal Ahmed Arahey, Minister of Petroleum and Minerals for Galmudug, also voiced her thoughts on the meeting. She tweeted, “Delighted to join H.E. Ahmed Abdi Kariye in welcoming EU in Somalia Ambassador Tiina Intelmann and her delegation to Galmudug. We had a fruitful discussion on the current situation, democratisation, security, and how the EU’s investment can aid in developing Galmudug’s economic infrastructure.”
As one of the most substantial donors, the EU has invested heavily in various projects across the region, spanning from education, peacebuilding, security, health, to infrastructure. This high-profile meeting underscores the increasingly robust ties between Somalia and the European Union, promising to drive forward progress in the country.
