(08-06-23) MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamsa Abdi Barre, highlighted the government’s commitment to execute the agreement concerning the electoral process. This resolution, the Prime Minister emphasised, presents the Somali populace with the rare opportunity to elect their desired leaders.
“Providing our citizens with the liberty to vote and express their political rights is our duty as a government,” Barre said.
He underscored the Council of Ministers’ role in implementing the electoral laws and fostering public awareness about the relevance of these proposals. Barre is pushing for an educational campaign that will help Somalis understand the significance and implications of the electoral process on their future.
In the face of ongoing national security concerns, the Prime Minister also accentuated the need for a united front against the Al-Shabaab militants. Barre stressed security as a subject of national importance and appealed to all Somali leaders and citizens to back the government’s endeavours as it prepares to kick off the second phase of its military campaign.
“The federal government’s goal is not instigating a political revolution but inciting a security revolution that aims to restore peace within the nation,” said Barre. This shift in focus also aims to seek international debt relief, finalise the drafting of the constitution, and stimulate a prosperous environment for the Somali people.
Prime Minister Barre’s comments echo a renewed determination to enhance the political autonomy of Somalia’s citizens and confront the persistent security challenges, a testament to his commitment to moving the country towards stability and growth. The world, and indeed the Somali people, will be watching closely to see how this new commitment translates into action in the days and months to come.
