(14-06-23) MOGADISHU — President Hassan Sheikh met on Tuesday with General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in Mogadishu. According to Villa Somalia, their discussions revolved around regional security issues and ways to further strengthen the security cooperation between Somalia and the United States.
The meeting comes as the Somali government continues its war against Al-Shabaab, and asks for more security support from international partners, including the US, to overcome the Al-Shabaab menace.
The meeting underscores the crucial role AFRICOM plays in supporting Somali forces and African Union troops in the country to counter extremist threats and nurture a secure environment for political and economic progress.
The US commander also met with SNA Chief General Odawa Yusuf Rageh, mainly discussing ways to improve cooperation between the two sides and intensify the operations against Al-Shabaab.
