(16-06-23) MOGADISHU — On Thursday, the Somali National Army struck a significant blow against the Al-Shabaab terror group, eliminating high-ranking leader Ali Ahmed Guure, commonly known as Ali Qoyane, in an operation between the city of Galcad and the region of Barag Sheikh Aamir in the Galgudud region. This pivotal action could signal a potential decline in the terrorist group’s influence and power within the area.
The elimination of the infamous ringleader Qoyane was confirmed by the state media on Friday. Notably, Qoyane had previously been sentenced to death in absentia by the Military Court, highlighting his grave threat to the security and peace of Somalia.
Deputy Commander of the 7th Brigade of the 16th Battalion, Mohamed Hassan Abukar, praised the operation, stating that it “proceeded exactly as planned.” Though he did not delve into specific operational details, his satisfaction with the outcome underlines the military’s continued commitment to combat the Al-Shabaab threat.
Further demonstrating the operation’s success, forces intercepted a Toyota NOHA vehicle reportedly loaded with an assortment of weapons, presumably intended for use by Qoyane and his associates.
