(30-06-23) MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Police Commandos have on Friday dismantled a court operated by the extremist group Al-Shabaab in Afgooye, a town in the Lower Shabelle region 30 kilometres south of Mogadishu. Known for their advanced counter-terrorism skills, the commandos executed the operation precisely and efficiently, capitalising on their training and the cover of darkness to secure the court premises without resistance.
The removal of this criminal court, a platform for Al-Shabaab’s extremist ideology, has brought much-needed relief to Afgooye’s residents and dealt a significant blow to the group’s attempts to establish unlawful judicial systems in the region.
With the successful completion of this operation, the Somali security forces sent a resounding message to extremist groups: their presence will not be tolerated, and the pursuit of justice and peace will persist. The dismantling of Al-Shabaab’s illegal court in Afgooye marks a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against extremism, offering hope for a more stable and progressive future for the residents of Afgooye.
