(14-06-23) GALKAYO — An extensive four-day course on ethics and human rights-based reporting, supported by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), concluded on Wednesday in Galkayo, with 30 Mudug journalists in attendance.
The rigorous training aimed to further the understanding and importance of human rights within the context of journalism, while also highlighting the crucial role that ethical standards play in reporting. The training equipped the participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to ensure their reporting upholds and promotes these values.
The Media Association of Puntland and Puntland’s Ministry of Information applauded the initiative. In tweets, the Ministry’s Director General saluted UNSOM for its timely support in this important endeavour.
Recognising the influence and reach of the media, this training initiative forms part of UNSOM’s broader strategy to promote a responsible and rights-based media environment in Somalia. By fostering a greater understanding of human rights and journalistic ethics among local reporters, UNSOM aims to contribute to the establishment of a media landscape that respects and upholds human rights and promotes transparency and accountability.
