(16-07-23) MOGADISHU – Kenyan Defence Minister, Aden Barre Duale, on Friday, visited Kenya’s Northeastern Province, speaking to the community, the minister asserted that the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and other security entities would tirelessly counteract and stave off terrorist activities to secure Kenyan territory.
Directly confronting Al-Shabaab, a Somalia-based militant group, Minister Duale emphasised that any terrorist acts within Kenyan borders would not be tolerated. This comes amidst a spate of attacks perpetrated by Al-Shabaab on Kenyan soil, signalling a ramping up of tensions in the region.
Mr Duale’s tour of the north-eastern border provinces of Diff, Gerrille, Konton, and Kotulo demonstrated a robust commitment to support public backing in the battle against Al-Shabaab. His travels alongside military top brass were aimed at bolstering confidence in the country’s capacity to resist external aggression.
In his speech, the Minister iterated, “The militia should not find refuge in Kenya when expelled from Somalia. The Kenyan army and other security groups are vigilant and determined to reduce terrorist-related activities.”
Assurances were given by Minister Duale that the Defence Ministry would further enhance the capacity of the KDF. This development will entail the procurement of modern weaponry to augment the army’s capabilities and empower the military to counter evolving security threats.
In light of recent Al-Shabaab assaults in Kenya, this declaration underscores the country’s resolve to fortify its defences and maintain the peace and safety of its citizenry. The Minister’s statements have made clear that Kenya remains resolute in its defence against external threats and terrorism.
