(04-07-23) MOGADISHU – A mortar attack in Mogadishu on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of a father and his two children, among several casualties. Several others, including members of the same family, were injured as the districts of Warta Nabadda, Hamar-Jajab and Waberi were hit by artillery shells.
Despite full governmental control over the city, recurrent mortar attacks continue unabated, with security agencies under criticism for failing to apprehend the perpetrators.
Among the victims were a respected Koran school teacher, Macalin Aweys, and his two daughters Halima and Nacimo were among the deceased while his wife and three siblings sustained injuries. At present, the city has returned to a fragile calm, with official comments from security agencies yet to be released.
This incident comes on the heels of similar attacks in recent months, despite security forces’ previous apprehension of suspects and seizure of weapons. This cycle of violence has kept the city on edge, with Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group, continuing to carry out assaults within the capital, questioning the effectiveness of the government’s security measures.
