(24/07/23) ROME – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday, attended the opening of the United Nations Food Systems Stocktaking Moment in Rome, Italy. The high-level summit was convened to address urgent concerns regarding global food insecurity and to explore ways of transforming food systems via strategic financing.
During the summit, heads of state, governments, and various other delegates came together to deliberate on the escalating global food insecurity crisis. Key topics of discussion included strategies to enhance food production, distribution, and affordability, particularly in regions severely impacted by environmental changes, economic instability, and conflict.
The summit also focused on transforming food systems through strategic financing, recognising the vital role that investment and fiscal policy play in ensuring sustainable and resilient food systems. This aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 2, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
President Mohamud’s participation underscores Somalia’s commitment to engaging with the international community on these pressing issues. The outcomes of this summit could potentially influence the country’s approach to food security and related policy in the years to come.
