(04-07-23) MOGADISHU – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a constructive meeting on Monday with British Ambassador to Somalia, Mike Nithavrianakis, Africa Director (East and Central), Simon Mustard, and Deputy Head of Department, East Africa, Kate Kyriakides. The meeting took place at Villa Somalia, focusing on Somalia’s priority areas and the reinforcement of the strategic UK-Somalia partnership.
During the discussion, security, humanitarian and economic priorities were at the forefront. There was also dialogue concerning a potential extension of support from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) – both crucial entities in Somalia’s journey towards security improvement and stability.
British Ambassador Mike Nithavrianakis expressed enthusiasm about the meeting’s outcomes. He emphasized the necessity of strengthening the UK-Somalia strategic partnership, considering it a critical part of their conversation. The meeting ended with both parties committing to cooperate in the pursuit of a safer and more stable Somalia.
