(03-07-23) GAROWE – Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni and Vice President Ahmed Elmi Osman Karaash have locked horns over the looming election schedule and a proposed government extension period, igniting political uncertainty in the region as reported by PuntlandPost on Monday.
Deni is reported to be advocating for a term extension beyond the legally scheduled election date of January 8, 2024. This move, however, has been met with opposition from his deputy, Karaash, who is insisting on adhering to the on-schedule election.
Karaash, concerned about the potential unrest and civil war, akin to the situation post the 2001 extension, argues for an on-time election. The Vice President, presently on Hajj, is set to officially articulate his stance upon his return.
