(03-07-23) MOGADISHU – Emerging reports suggest an overnight operation, in the early hours on Monday by the Somali National Army and Jubbaland forces on the outskirts of Dhobley town near the Somalia-Kenyan border. The forces targeted a suspected Al-Shabaab location, sparking direct combat.
The area, allegedly earmarked by Al-Shabaab for assaulting military positions, came under intense fire, escalating tensions in Dhobley. Neither the Somali National Army, Jubbaland forces, nor Al-Shabaab have released official statements concerning the operation.
In recent days, increased activity from government forces and the Jubbaland Dervishes has been noted in Jubbaland State, suggesting a renewed push against Al-Shabaab. Al-Shabaab has been waging a war against Kenyan border towns along Jubaland state.
