(11-07-23) MOGADISHU – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has invited former Somali leaders to a consultative meeting at Villa Somalia to discuss the country’s fate, including a review of past achievements, present challenges, and future plans for the country.
The president is set to tap into the wealth of experience and insights of his predecessors, with particular emphasis on critical national issues such as security, counter-terrorism measures, the finalisation of the constitution review, and the process of democratisation.
Confirming the meeting, Villa Somalia tweeted, “H.E. Hassan Mohamud invites former Somali leaders for a consultative meeting to share achievements, challenges, and future plans. The president will hear the insights of former leaders on security, counter-terrorism, the completion of the constitution review, and democratisation.”
The meeting will come amid an ongoing military effort against Al-Shabaab as well as opposition to the last National Consultative Council (NCC) gathering in Mogadishu, which resulted in outcomes such as holding universal suffrage elections and changes to the country’s governing structure.
