(02-07-23) MOGADISHU – More than 300 local residents of Dalsan Village in Jubaland State including children and elderly have benefited from a medical camp set up as part of a cooperative effort between the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF), Somali Special Commandos of Danab, and the US military forces on Saturday.
The medical camp, organised under the African Transition in Somalia (ATMIS), a peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations, was a significant step in improving the state of civil-military relations in the region. It was designed to diagnose and treat various illnesses prevalent among the local population, offering essential medical services in an area where access to healthcare is often limited.
In addition to the medical camp, the military forces conducted joint patrols around the village and major supply routes, ensuring the safety and security of the local population and supply lines. The concerted effort to secure the area aims to enhance peace and stability, thereby aiding in the region’s development.
This approach, integrating healthcare and security measures, offers a glimpse into the holistic efforts being undertaken by the involved military forces to not just combat insurgency, but also address the root causes of instability, such as the lack of basic services and amenities.
