(07-08-23) MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Justice Minister Hassan Sheikh Ali presented a draft bill on legal aid to the Lower House of Parliament today facing questions from some of the legislators on the draft bill and other ministry-related activities. The Minister was summoned to appear before the Parliament to elucidate the key facets of the proposed legislation and answer questions related to his ministry’s initiatives. The draft bill primarily focuses on extending social assistance in the realm of legal representation—a fundamental right for every Somali citizen.
“This bill will promote justice and the supremacy of law so that everyone can get the social assistance they need, which is the right to get legal representation,” the minister shared in a tweet following the presentation.
His presentation came two days after the Parliament ejected him from the House owing to tardiness, leading to the postponement of his presentation.
