(04-08-23) MOGADISHU – Somalia’s National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA) has arrested 10 alleged Al-Shabaab spies within security agencies, as revealed by the Minister of Information, Daud Aweys, in a press conference in Mogadishu on Friday
Two individuals who were previously part of the security agencies, Abdisatar Abdiqadir Isse and Ayanle Mohamed Ali, were identified as suppliers of vital information to Al-Shabaab, resulting in major losses for the government. Both are currently on the run.
The Minister also announced the completion of the first phase of operations against Al-Shabaab, with the next stage to begin in Galmudug and Hirshabeelle.
Last month, 14 army officers were arrested, including a commander in Mogadishu, suspected of allowing a suicide bomber access to a fortified facility, where dozens were killed. The incidents highlight the complex challenge of Al-Shabaab’s infiltration within Somalia’s National Army, marking a critical juncture in the nation’s fight against the terrorist group.
